Why You Need to Stay Motivated

According to Brainy Quote, Thomas A. Edison said, “Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” We all reach points of desperation at one point or the other in our lives. Challenges can be so overwhelming that we give up the fight.

However, as Edison observes, we must learn to try just one more time as this may be the opportunity to achieve what we desire. The tragedy of life is no that we fail, said an anonymous writer, but that we do not rise up after we have failed.

You are like most other human beings who love being around people who motivate and encourage them. We are drawn to optimism but repelled by pessimism. From an early age, we learned that stories should end with ‘and they lived ever after”. That is what we hope to see in life.

We also find motivation in Holy Books. The Bible, Quran and others encourage people to face and overcome their challenges through divine assistance. They also teach that human beings can achieve extraordinary fetes by aligning themselves with God.

The motivational industry has over the years grown in leaps and bounds. There are countless motivational books, audios and videos on offer. You can even pay to listen live to an inspirational speaker. Many a desperate individual has found hope and encouragement to transform his or her life after listening to a motivational speaker.

Do not stay unmotivated. Get a book or listen to something inspiring on YouTube. If you are religious, normalize attending meetings where you can listen to scripture. Zig Ziglar, as US motivational speaker once said, “Of course motivation is not permanent. But then, neither is bathing; but it is something you should do on a regular basis.”

Here are a few classical and contemporary motivational books you can start reading:

  1. Think and Grow Rich – Napoleon Hill
  2. The Magic of Thinking Big – David J. Schwartz
  3. The Power of Positive Thinking – Norman Vincent Peale
  4. Think Big – Ben Carson
  5. How to Win Friends and Influence People – Dale Carnegie
  6. As Man Thinketh – James Allen
  7. 7 Habits of Highly Effective People – Stephen Covey
